The Arundo Donax, "music cane", has been grown by the Van Doren family in the heart of the Var in southern France for three generations. Vandoren reed is designed to produce a quality of extremely pure sound.
Excellent response in all registers, even allowing a pianissimo attach of the highest notes.
Flexibility allowing the legato or staccato execution of large intervals.
Richness of tone which gives body and brilliance to the sound.
Tip thickness: 0.09mm, Heel thickness: 2.8mm
Each reed grows one full year to reach its size and diameter and is harvested at the end of the second year after the reed has gained body and strength. The cane is cut by hand and harvested while the moon is descending to ensure the sap is still within the stalk. The cut cane dries for an additional two years before manufacturing begins. Each reed is cut within 1/100 mm and packaged in a humidity controlled environment. Vandoren reeds are play tested by professional around the world to insure each reed meets the Vandoren high quality standards.
