Kimberly Zimmerman grew up with a love for instrumental music.  She started taking piano lessons at age 7 and discovered the cello in a middle school orchestra class.  In high school she was invited to play with the Elon University Chamber Orchestra and the North Carolina Eastern Region All-State Symphonic Orchestra.

Kimberly earned a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education at Salem College, where she studied cello with Anne Sellitti and graduated magna cum laude.  She then graduated from Appalachian State University with a Master’s of Music in Cello Performance.  At Appalachian, Kimberly was selected as a graduate assistant with the cello studio and with the Hayes Graduate String Quartet.  There, she studied cello with Ken Lurie and received chamber music coachings from Nancy Bargerstock, Eric Koontz and George Figueroa.

Kimberly has been the featured soloist with the Salem College Orchestra, in masterclasses for Steven Doane, Ken Law and Grace Anderson, for ASU’s Graduate School Commencement Ceremony and in solo recitals.  Her quartet has performed in masterclasses for John Kaboff and members of the Tokyo String Quartet.  She has performed with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and the Appalachian Repertory Orchestra and has been principal cellist for the Elon University Chamber Orchestra, the Salem College Chamber Orchestra, Appalachian Musical Theatre, Appalachian Opera Orchestra, Appalachian Philharmonia, and the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra.
